After your initial free half hour consultation, and if you then choose to begin working with me, we can schedule regular, probably weekly sessions. During these sessions you will be encouraged to discuss your situation, feelings and emotions. Whilst other forms of helping can focus on practical solutions, counselling usually focuses primarily on psychological or emotional needs and problems.
In other words, I won’t give you solutions to your problems or offer advice. My aim is to provide you with emotional support, whilst facilitating your emotional healing and growth, or more simply, using skills and techniques to allow you to discover the real you, and find the answers out for yourself. There is nothing more satisfying to watch, or experience, than a ‘light bulb’ moment!
I work from my office near Shrewsbury. I offer counselling to all irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic origin.
Boundaries and ethics are vital in the counselling profession. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework for good practice, you can find this at www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework
A written contract is important in professional practice, as it ensures that you understand my way of working, including note taking, confidentiality policy etc. I’ll talk through this contract with you at your first appointment, and you’ll have a copy to take home.
What Jane Expects From You
For counselling to be effective, you need to be committed to the process. This means keeping appointments whenever possible, being prompt for your sessions (I do not have a waiting room), and being aware that the process of change and self reflection can at times be uncomfortable. If we speak honestly with each other, we can minimise this discomfort and build a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship.
Click Counselling Practice offers professional counselling in the Shropshire area and online throughout the UK, by a qualified counsellor for a range of life problems.
