About Jane

My name is Jane Trask and I am a fully qualified, integrative counsellor and use a variety of methods when working with clients from age 16 upwards. I work from home near Shrewsbury and offer a discreet, safe and private room to discuss any issues you may have. I’m now resuming face to face work, but also continue to offer online or phone contact, via Zoom, WhatsApp and Skype platforms.

I have worked with children of all ages as both a learning support worker and a teaching assistant. I have also worked alongside victims of crime in the legal sector. My counselling experience includes working with carers, who I feel are very under-represented in the healthcare system, eating disorders, and victims of trauma including domestic and sexual abuse. I aim to demystify counselling, to rid the profession of its sometimes negative reputation as wishy-washy waffling. I firmly believe in the power of counselling having received it myself in the past, and have a passion for helping others to experience its benefits.

I pursued a career in counselling after witnessing the devastating effect of crime when I worked in Crown Courts across the south-east. From burglary to rape, there is almost always an innocent victim who is left damaged by the callous actions of others. I wanted to be able to help these people. I’ve previously worked as a volunteer counsellor with a mental health charity too, being presented with a wide spectrum of challenging issues.

This website is simple because if you are reading this looking for help right now, the last thing you want to do is wade through pages of blurb. I offer an initial free half hour consultation to see if I can help you. I will always be honest with you – if I’m not the best person to help you in your situation, then I’ll redirect you to someone who is better placed to do so, rather than accept your money regardless.

Boundaries and ethics are vital in the counselling profession. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework for good practice, you can find this at www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework. A written contract is important in this practice, as it ensures that you understand my way of working, including note taking, confidentiality policy and so on. I’d talk through this contract at your first appointment, and you will be given a copy to take home.

I understand that asking for help can be a big step and one that takes courage, and while I will support you to find a way through your current distress, I won’t tell you what you should do or tie you into a lengthy contract. I will value and respect you for who you are and will never judge you. If you would like to talk with me on the phone to find out a little bit more about what counselling involves, please give me a buzz on 0751 949 2229. Don’t be put off if you come through to a voicemail service because I’m probably with someone, please leave a message and I will ring you back as soon as I can and I’ll try really hard to meet with you within 3 working days.
